Systemic Innovation in Vocational Education and Training

Although the management of change within complex systems is a key challenge to educational policy-makers, the dynamics of innovation in education are not yet fully understood.

Whereas there has been a lot of focus on the role of universities in science-based innovation, the analysis of innovation from a systemic perspective has been very limited in the field of VET (Vocational Education and Training), as has the role of VET-systems in firm-based and regional innovation

Danish Technological Institute plays a central expert role in a current OECD initiative jointly run by OECD/Center for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) and OECD Education. The focus of the initiative is systemic innovation in VET.

The initiative addresses questions such as how and to which extent systemic innovation in VET occurs on a system-wide basis, what are the drivers of innovation, and are there particular policy measures that are central to sustaining and scaling innovation. The initiative involves a policy review and country case studies in a number of countries that participate in the initiative.

Danish Technological Institute has also prepared a  DownloadBackground Paper on Innovation and Education (550 KB)  for the European Commission as input to policy initiatives in 2009, European Year of Creativity and Innovation - where creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation will be in focus at a number of planned events.
