The University of Calgary is a world renowned centre for oil and gas research, with many labs dedicated to Petroleum Microbiology. It is home to the Petroleum Microbiology Research Group, ISEEE (the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy) and the lead institution for the Hydrocarbon Metagenomics Project, the UofC has a proud history in oilfield research and development with outstanding accomplishments in understanding the role of organisms in the diagenesis of oil, development of fire flooding and SAGD processes.
