Newly reinforced organisation is the root to growth!

As of the 2nd of February 2009, the Danish Technological Institute organisation has been developed and structured to meet the rising demands for multiple solutions within highly specialized technological areas. The background of the organizational changes is to strengthen the inter-organisational cooperation, so that apparent synergies can quickly realize achievable benefits for Danish businesses.

Life Science is a newly innovated division in the century-old Danish Technological Institute. This has brought about diverse pivotal skills to give Danish clients and international partners improved opportunities for growth within the Life Science industry. Bo Frølund has been appointed as director of this new group.

“I am eagerly anticipating getting started in creating synergy by bringing together more than 100 people who are already working at high level practices in areas such as biotechnology, ICT, food technology and health. Such focus and concentration of critical mass is the root to growth. We will continue to build on our existing knowledge by taking advantage of the many new possibilities. Combined with our high-tech laboratories, established big companies as well as smaller research-based biotech companies will start up their innovation and growth”, says Director Bo Frølund.

ICT Application in Life Science - a new aim
ICT is integrated into our environment to better our life situation. The Danish Technological Institute has strong competence in “Ambient Intelligence”, which is an offshoot of the concept “IT in everything”. IT Development Centre Manager  Jens E. Kristensen assesses that ICT-supported activities for the healthy, sick, chronically ill, and the handicapped will be an essential priority of this new division.

Moreover, the interdisciplinary skills of the new division will initiate new possibilities for the development of Ambient Intelligence- based products bordering health technology and lifestyle products.

Food Technology Centre Manager Anna Maria Hansen is excited to contribute to the Danish Technological Institute’s increased focus on Life Science, to strengthen the food industry’s competitiveness.

“Measuring all our capabilities in the new division makes the Danish Technological Institute the largest consultant within the food technology sector, hereby allowing us to better help the food industry which is currently facing complex challenges.
A part of the reason is that the consumers are increasingly demanding easy, fast, tasty, healthy, and safe products and also because the global competition is very intense”, Anne Maria Hansen said, adding: “We have in recent years built a series of key factors such as encapsulation and release of health promoting drugs and pharmaceuticals in proteomics analysis.  It gives us a professional standing which we would only be too happy to use in an even higher level to benefit the business”.

Organizational changes also strengthen the biotechnological activities, for example, the Danish Technological Institute is working in transforming waste into useful products such as fuel for vehicles or chemicals.

“In light of the global climate situation and an imminent shortage of oil resources, it is quite important that we, in time, will possibly make use of alternative raw materials”, Bo Frølund commented.

The Life Science division will from here on intensify work in molecular biology and the use of DNA-based methods. These modern methods use the Danish Technological Institute in many aspects, for example, in the health sector, where diagnosis of infection is improved and expedited.
