In order to affix the CE marking to a product, the manufacturer has to perform certain tasks, defined in the harmonised Euro standard (EN) or European Technical Approval Guideline (ETAG). Listed below you find the standards or ETAGs for timber products:

The EN or ETAG defines who needs to do what, by specifying a level of "Attestation of Conformity" AoC.
Who does what
AoC is basically a "who does what" to allow CE marking. Some tasks will be done by the manufacturer and some will be done by a Notified Body.
There are four levels of AoC, ranging from Level 1 (most onerous) to Level 4 (least onerous), though there is also a Level 1+ and a Level 2+. The more safety critical products will be allocated an onerous AoC (e.g. 1 or 1+), whereas non-critical products will have a less onerous AoC (e.g. 3 or 4).
The table below summarises the requirements for ITT under each AoC Level.

Initial type testing (ITT) shall be performed on first application, except where tests were previously performed in accordance with the provisions of of the relevant standard or ETAG (same product, same characteristic(s), test method, sampling procedure, system of attestation of conformity, etc.).
In addition, ITT shall be performed at the beginning of the production of a new product type or at the beginning of a new method of production (where these may affect the stated properties). It shall cover all the performance characteristics relevant to the intended application.
Please contact us if you need further information about ITT. Fill in the contact form and we will send you a checklist with the minimum requirements for ITT of the product.
Notified Body
DTI is designated to provide Notified Body services for a very wide range of construction products. We offer services to manufacturers both in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
