Calibration involves a wider range of tasks including checking that the weight/weighing belt is working properly under test, ensuring that the instrument has a traceable calibration, using the correct calibration/ verification method and calculating the uncertainty of the measurement. The aim is to provide suffi cient information on the above topics to enable users to choose the equipment and methods that meet their needs and to provide a firm platform assuring that installation and use of weighing devices is performed correctly.
Who should attend?
This course is relevant to people who use, check or calibrate laboratory or industrial weights (mass standards and belt weighers), and particularly to people who are involved in laboratory accreditation and QA programmes. It is designed to provide value for senior technicians, engineers and technical staff from a wide range of industries, calibration and test laboratories involved in laboratory accreditation and establishing measurement traceability under an ISO quality system. Participants should have a basic level of mathematics.
After the course you will have obtained
- Practical knowledge in order to choose the right equipment for weighing, proving and sampling and in order to be able to resolve any ensuing problems
- Skills to meet the requirements of traceability and quality standards of ISO 17025 or in-house requirements of traceability and quality standards
- Knowledge needed to verify/certify a belt weigher in accordance with the uniform test procedures.
The course includes a review of the principles of weighing metrology, the measurement system, traceability and aspects of the calibration process, which can affect the results. It covers essential knowledge of calibration, calibration-system error analysis and completion of calibration reports and provides you with useful frameworks and concepts for a wide range of factors influencing e.g. the problem of buoyancy, the laboratory environment for mass measurement. There will be a number of hands-on exercises to develop practical skills.
