Reports on CO2 Uptake from the Carbonation of Concrete - Introduction

In the project "CO2  Uptake during the Concrete Life Cycle", running from 2003 to 2005, a total of 5 reports were published by the project participants in 2005.

On the following pages these reports are described and abstracts are given.

Approximately half of the CO2 emissions from cement production stems from the calcination of limestone. Theoretically, hardened concrete binds approximately the same amount of CO2 in the carbonation process.

The reports give the background for including CO2 Uptake during a full life-cycle of concrete. Furthermore, a model for Carbonation. Furthermore, a model for CO2 Uptake is presented depending on theconcrete quality, application and exposure conditions. This model is validated by means of laboratory experiments.
