Material analysis using microCT scanning
CT scanning is a non-destructive analytical technique that uses computer power to create a 3D model from X-ray images taken at different angles.
This is illustrated above, where X-rays of a small mouse are taken at various angles. At the bottom is the 3D model reconstructed by the computer based on the X-ray images.
Figure 2: Here the reconstructed data from the X-ray image are shown
A CT scan provides information about both the external and internal structure of a sample, without destroying it. This can be used for quality control or general troubleshooting of products or materials. Our plastics and packaging specialists typically use CT scans together with our other techniques, such as FTIR and visual inspection, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue.
How can the Danish Technological Institute help?
- Scanning and analysis as part of troubleshooting
- Investigating foreign objects and air inclusions
- Distribution of particles and fibres from fillers
