Measuring oxygen transmission rates (OTR)

It can be important to know the permeability of materials to oxygen, especially when used for packaging of foodstuffs or pharmaceutical products, as the rate of which oxygen is transported through the packaging can determine the shelf life of the products.

Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) is a measurement of the amount of oxygen that passes through a substance over a given period of time.

Mocon OX-TRAN Model 2/22 is a test system for measuring of oxygen transmission rate on films, whole packages and many other items. With a coulometric sensor OX-TRAN 2/22 can measure in a detection range from 0.05 to 200 cc/(m2*day)

We perform tests in accordance with ASTM D3985, F1927 and F1307
