Testing and evaluation of liquid renewable fuels

Are you about to start production of renewable fuel, need a professional assessment or verification of your process, intermediate product, end product or fuel blend?
Then Danish Technological Institute (DTI) is an excellent choice as your new partner. DTI is in possession of both knowledge and equipment which will help you getting a head start on a challenging market.

The challenges we now face arise from the fact that renewable fuels originate from multiple feedstock and multiple conversion technologies. This results in a vast variety of fuel properties which may not have been taken into account during the development of the current fuel regulations. Renewable fuels are chemically rather different from fossil fuels and a number of challenges have already been identified when it comes to large-scale mixing, storage, distribution, and handling of renewable fuels in the existing infrastructure.

DTI provides state-of-the-art methods in the field of advanced chemical and modern molecular methods to address the key challenges presented by the renewable fuel industry when it comes to characterization and understanding of fuel quality. This knowledge is subsequently transferred into real-life tests at our engine laboratories where detailed analyses on exhaust emissions and engine wear can be carried out under controlled conditions using a variety of different fuel blends and engine types.

How can the Danish Technological Institute help you?

  • Detailed chemical analyses by GC-MS, GC-FID, Raman spectroscopy, LC-MS, ICP-MS allow us to trouble-shoot your production system with the newest methods on the market
  • Detailed knowledge on law, regulations, and standards on the biofuels market – making it possible for us to advise you on how to market your product!
  • Testing of cold-flow properties of both neat and blended fuels as well as providing inputs to blending levels and recommended additives
  • Microbiological analyses and DNA-based studies of microbial diversity and activity in fuel samples (mixed and neat)
  • Evaluation of fuel degradation in various environments – i.e. storage tanks, fuel stations, and at the end-user
  • Microbial induced corrosion (MIC) – evaluation and prevention
  • Measurement of gas emissions (NOx, SO2, particles, PAH) from engines operated on both ordinary petrochemical fuels and all types of neat and blended biofuels
