Battery systems and grid connection
Large-scale battery systems, also known as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), are becoming increasingly important in the electrification of society and the green transition. By storing electricity for later use, battery systems can help reduce pressure on the electricity grid during peak demand, while also increasing flexibility, security of supply and resilience in a company’s energy system.
However, battery projects are rarely straightforward. They involve a range of technical and regulatory considerations, including system sizing, integration, safety, grid connection and coordination with authorities and grid operators.
How we can support your battery project
At the Danish Technological Institute, we help companies assess, design and integrate large-scale battery systems. Drawing on our technological expertise, hands-on experience, and test facilities, we support you in clarifying the potential of a battery solution and in managing key aspects such as grid connection, safety, testing and implementation.
We can help with
- Mapping available electrical capacity and identifying the point of connection
- Assessing available installation areas and compliance with fire safety requirements
- Preparing technical specifications
- Providing technical sparring and reviewing supplier proposals
- Testing and advisory services related to Technical Regulation 3.3.1
- Supporting dialogue with grid operators and the organization Energinet
- Planning and carrying out Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Project management during implementation
