C-marking and classification of drones
All new drones sold in the EU must carry a C-marking to be legally used in the open category. The label (C0-C6) determines where, how, and by whom the drone can be flown.
DTI can help manufacturers, importers, and distributors of drones targeting the European market to ensure legal compliance and certification.
What is C-marking?
C-marking is the mandatory class identification label (C0–C6) for all drones placed on the EU market defined in EU Regulation 2019/945.
It shows which safety, technical, and operational requirements the drone complies with—governing where, how, and by whom it can be flown.
Why is C-marking important?
- It's a legal requirement for market access in the EU
- It determines operational permissions (e.g. flight over people, maximum weight, safety features)
- It informs users and authorities about drone capabilities and restrictions
- It's a necessary first step before CE-marking and EU declaration of conformity (DoC)
What can DTI help you with?
We help manufacturers, importers, and distributors achieve the correct C-marking through:
- Analysis to determine the right class (C0–C6) for your drone
- Testing (weight, sound, safety, geo-awareness, and remote ID) and certification
- Review of technical documentation to support your CE-marking process
- Guidance on correct labeling and documentation for market access
