Defence and emergency preparedness: analysis, innovation and collaboration on technology

Strengthening Danish defence and emergency preparedness, as well as overall societal security, requires strong collaboration and insight into technological developments. Danish Technological Institute is at the forefront of the defence technology agenda and plays a pivotal role in the Danish ecosystem in this domain. We provide market analyses with technology at the core and facilitate networks and innovation in areas such as drone and counter-drone technology (C-UAS). We also work with the broader business policy agendas within the defence sector, including workforce and skills. Finally, we contribute knowledge and analyses regarding Denmark’s emergency preparedness.

What can we offer?

We map technological developments within one or more areas and identify key stakeholders in Denmark and internationally. This provides insight into the direction in which defence technology is moving and the stakeholders driving its development. We analyse Denmark’s defence industry on the basis of data, interviews and surveys among companies and experts. In addition, we identify regulatory, skills-related, workforce-related and technological barriers to innovation and growth. We also facilitate networks between researchers, companies and other relevant stakeholders with the aim of developing new, concrete technological solutions for the defence sector. Among other initiatives, Danish Technological Institute runs the UDIN project, which supports and mobilises Denmark’s drone technology ecosystem.

Denmark’s defence industry is growing, but its continued expansion depends on companies having access to employees with the necessary competences. The report maps the current workforce across the industry’s approx. 325 companies and assesses the competences they will need in the future. It discusses key trends, bottlenecks and the potential for automation and offers practical recommendations to help the education system, public authorities and industry prepare the defence sector for the future.

A roadmap for building a Danish position of strength in quantum technology for defence (report in Danish)

Denmark has a world-class quantum research community, but research alone does not create defence capability. This report analyses the Danish ecosystem for defence-relevant quantum technology, focusing on companies and investors. It identifies barriers, makes strategic recommendations and proposes practical initiatives to help turn Denmark’s research strengths into defence capabilities and a stronger defence industry.
