Measuring emissions from facilities and open sources

The environmental and climate impact of agriculture and industry has come in focus in recent years. Regulation and corporate social responsibility make it necessary to address the impact caused by a process or facility and to take the necessary measures required to reduce it.

Determining emissions of greenhouse gases and environmentally harmful substances from larger facilities or areas – such as natural areas, open biomass containers, compost heaps, livestock housing, biogas and wastewater plants, etc. – can be difficult due to factors such as weather conditions, variations in emissions and the lack of physical confinement of the source. Consequently, it can be challenging to scale results from the laboratory to pilot or full scale.

At Danish Technological Institute, we specialise in determining emissions from facilities and open areas using a range of advanced methods.

We can help with:

  • Measuring emissions from facilities and open sources, e.g. biogas and wastewater plants. This includes long-term flux measurements, tracer gas measurements, and field measurements to identify point sources.
  • DANAK-accredited tracer gas measurements to determine greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Assistance with developing facility monitoring using sensors. We have extensive experience in fenceline and point-source measurements at wastewater and biogas plants.
  • Measuring emissions from naturally ventilated spaces, e.g. open livestock housing, covered tanks, and open storage facilities.
  • Consultancy regarding emission levels, sources, ventilation, and emission-reducing technologies.
