New project will strengthen energy efficiency and competitiveness in future converter platforms
A new MADE project brings together KK Group, Heatflow ApS, and the Danish Technological Institute to explore a new cooling concept for next-generation converter platforms.
The collaboration builds on existing expertise and aims to investigate how improved thermal management can support greater energy efficiency, lower resource consumption, and stronger competitiveness in future industrial solutions.
A key challenge in modern industry
As electronic systems become smaller and more powerful, heat management is becoming an increasingly important issue in industrial development. Excess heat affects not only performance, but also lifespan and operational reliability. This makes cooling solutions a critical part of future converter platform design.
This project is intended to generate knowledge and provide a stronger basis for evaluating how future cooling concepts can contribute to more energy-efficient and competitive products. This aligns closely with MADE’s overall ambition to support projects that both promote the green transition and strengthen the competitiveness of Danish companies.
Testing a new cooling concept
The project focuses on investigating and testing a more efficient and resource-conscious way of handling heat in a specific industrial application in KK Group's electromechanical solutions for e.g. the wind industry and other energy-intensive industries.
The ambition goes beyond improving a single component. Instead, the partners aim to establish a documented foundation for the next step toward a solution that can be integrated into future converter platforms. In this way, the project is positioned as an important early validation step toward a scalable platform solution and a decision-making basis for future industrial implementation.

Strong potential for environmental impact
The project also has a clear environmental dimension. According to the project material, the partners aim to reduce peak temperatures, lower energy losses in the conversion stage, and decrease material consumption through a more integrated solution.
The expected effects include:
- 10–15°C lower maximum temperatures
- Approximately 20% reduction in current energy losses
- 10–30% lower material consumption per component
The project’s climate impact will be documented based on references, testing, and the principles of the Climate Compass.
Value for all project partners
The project creates both technological and commercial value for the partners involved.
KK Group will gain a stronger basis for assessing the potential of next-generation cooling solutions in its platform development as well as contribute to real-world testing of implementation and scale
Heatflow will have the opportunity to further develop and mature new design principles and solutions with commercial potential.
Danish Technological Institute will help ensure that the solution is developed with industrial feasibility in mind and with a path toward later scaling.
Combining technology, industry, and production maturity
By bringing together industrial application, technological specialist knowledge, and production maturation in one project, the collaboration aims to create solutions that support lower energy use, lower material consumption, and stronger competitiveness in Danish manufacturing.
