Pressure and force measurement of machines, robots, and mobile robots in collaborative applications
Get impartial documentation that your robots and machines comply with biomechanical limit values. An important piece to increase safety and strengthen your CE marking.
When humans and machines share the workspace, it must be ensured that potential collisions or clamping hazards do not pose a safety risk.
This applies regardless of whether it is a robot application, a mobile robot (AGV/AMR), or a machine with moving parts.
Danish Technological Institute (DTI) offers force and pressure measurement that documents that your machines comply with the applicable biomechanical limit values for human contact.
This documentation can be added to your technical file as part of the CE marking process for products in the European Union.
What can we test for you?
We can adapt our measurement setup to a wide range of different scenarios:
- Collaborative robot applications: The requirements for collaborative robot applications are defined in ISO 10218-2:2025. We help you document compliance with this standard by testing the complete application (robot, tool, and workpiece) against the biomechanical limit values in ISO/TS 15066. The measurements are performed according to the test methods in ISO/PAS 5672.
- Mobile robots (AMR and AGV): Mobile robots often navigate close to employees. We measure clamping forces and braking distances in potential trapping scenarios – for example, between the robot and fixed installations such as walls or shelving units – in accordance with standards such as ISO 3691-4.
- Machines with safety bumpers and sensitive edges: Do you have machinery, gates, or other equipment fitted with pressure-sensitive safety bumpers or sensor edges? We measure the reaction forces to ensure that the bumper reacts gently enough to prevent personal injury.
- Other industrial machinery: Any machine where the operator can encounter power- or force-limited moving parts can be tested in accordance with ISO/TS 15066.
What you get with a test from DTI
Our services can be tailored to your specific needs:
- On-site visit and measurement: A specialist from DTI visits your company with specialised measuring equipment that simulates the elasticity of the human body.
- Identification of hazard zones: We collaborate with you to identify the most critical collision and trapping points on the machine or robot.
- Independent documentation report: After the measurements, you will receive a report containing measurement results, graphs, and conclusions. The report documents whether the measured forces (N) and pressures (N/cm²) comply with the limit values in the relevant standards, such as ISO 10218-2:2025, ISO/TS 15066, and ISO 3691-4.
- A product certificate with reference to a measurement report
- Professional consultancy: If the measurements show that the limit values are exceeded, we offer advisory services on how the design can be modified to improve safety.
