Working environment - measuring for chemical and physical components
The air is affected and polluted by many different sources - inside buildings as well as in the external environment. Problems often arise due to the release of volatile compounds or particles into the indoor climate from products/materials and to emissions of harmful odours from industry or agriculture. These problems create a need for documentation and improved air quality.
Danish Technological Institute can assist you in documenting the quality of the indoor or outdoor air and also in improving the air quality.
We have all relevant process-chemical skills and the necessary equipment to analyse the air quality. Analyses are carried out according to relevant national (DS) and international reference methods (NIOSH, OSHA, ASTM, etc.).
Danish Technological Institute can help you with:
Measurements of:
- Dust, aerosols, particles, fibres
- Organic solvents: VOCs and VVOCs
- Identification and assessment of odour components
- Gases – organic or inorganic compounds
- Metals, quartz dust, mineral wool fibres, and other inorganic compounds
- Microbiology – mould, yeast, bacteria
- Indoor climate according to standards from DGNB, LEED, or FBK
Danish Technological Institute can also:
- Recommend substance groups or components for analysis, based on your description and knowledge of the environment/workplace.
- Carry out measurements of compressed air quality in compliance with purity requirements, e.g., for respiratory protection, food contact, or in accordance with ISO 8573.
- Prepare a sampling strategy.
In occupational environments, samples are often collected by drawing air through a selected medium with a pump that has a defined flow rate. Afterwards, the samples are analysed in the laboratory for the requested parameters. Analyses can be carried out with stationery or portable equipment. Sampling takes around 4 hours (but may be shorter or longer, depending on the process and level of exposure).
Passive measurements could be a better choice (typically for certain measurements of volatile organic compounds). Sampling can take place within 1–2 weeks.
Chemical Characterisation and Services has an impartial and independent laboratory at its disposal, and the laboratory is accredited by DANAK according to DS/EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Accredited testing is conducted according to severe quality assurance requirements and is recognized throughout Europe.
