CO2 and NH3 laboratory

Our CO2 & NH3 Laboratory offers testing of gas coolers, cascade heat exhangers, valves and other components in unique test setups. The laboratory comprises a highly advanced climate chamber and several CO2 and NH3 plants used for testing and developing components and new technology. We offer testing of components with a 50 kW ammonia (NH3) refrigeration cycle down to -40°C, using a CO2 system to cool the ammonia.

A brand new test setup for air-cooled evaporators and condensers is currently being build around a 150m3 climate chamber. The setup is prepared for NH3 and CO2.

Unique test setups

We use our various plants, e.g. our two-step plant with ammonia, for testing and developing new components and technology as well as for teaching.

We also offer unique test setups designed specifically for each test and product. Our specialists are highly experienced in designing different setups and installations as well as models which provide the best test conditions for your product. This means that we are able to create tests which are based on special requirements and different from usual standard tests.

Natural refrigerants

Our specialists have more than 15 years of experience working with natural refrigerants such as CO2, NH3, prophane and water. Our test facilities comprise e.g. transcritical CO2 plants and cascade plants using NH3 on one side and CO2 on the other as well as a 1 mW ammonia chiller used for testing of large valves and plate heat exchangers.

Natural refrigerants are an alternative to synthetic refrigerants such as the HFC and HCFC refrigerants which cause greenhouse effect and ozone depletion. Examples of HCF and HCFC refrigerants are R134a, R404a and R410a and R12, R22, and R502, respectively. Natural refrigerants, e.g. R290, R600a, R717, and R744 are environmentally friendly and they are not ozone depleting or cause greenhouse effect.

Making your own tests

We have a strong focus on the quality of products, and we would therefore like to contribute to ensuring that consumers are offered good quality products which are also the right solution in terms of energy. Therefore, our laboratory facilities are available to producers and importers who want to test, develop or optimize their own products. Please contact us for further information about your possibilities.
