In Danish
Dancert A/S is a notified body (ExNB) and assists manufacturers with relevant ATEX certification - through close technical sparring, short paths to decisions, and more than 25 years of experience.
If you manufacture equipment and protective systems intended for use in or in connection with areas with a risk of potentially explosive atmospheres, EU legislation requires the product to be ATEX-certified. A certification process is complex and typically involves extensive technical documentation and testing performed according to harmonised standards. However, the path from finished design to certified product does not have to be long if you start early and clarify the requirements with Dancert prior to the start of production.
Dancert is a notified body under the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and performs, among other services, type examination and certification of category 1 and category 2 equipment. We assist you through the process with professional guidance, clear communication, and fast turnaround times.
Do you recognise these challenges?
Many manufacturers find that the ATEX certification process raises questions that are difficult to resolve alone:
ATEX marking Requirements for technical documentation: what exactly must the technical file contain, and is the documentation sufficient?- Selection of protection concepts and standards: which type of protection is correct for the product, and which harmonised standards must be followed?
- Uncertainty regarding category and classification: must the product be classified for category 1, 2, or 3, and what does this mean for the conformity assessment route?
- Modifications to existing certifications: the product has been modified, and it is unclear whether the modification requires a new type examination or simply a supplementary certificate.
- International recognition: the product is to be sold outside the EU, and it is unclear how the ATEX certification aligns with schemes such as IECEx.
From documentation to certification - how we help
The certificate is issued by Dancert, an independent and impartial certification body. Dancert is designated as a notified body in Denmark for electrical and non-electrical equipment (Notified Body No. 1073 – ExNB).
This means that Dancert can issue relevant ATEX certificates for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Dancert is accredited by DANAK, and this accreditation ensures that only personnel with documented expertise in ATEX requirements are authorized to perform the evaluations.
Specialists from Danish Technological Institute perform the complete type examination on behalf of Dancert and issue EU-type examination certificates for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. We cover:
- Type certification of electrical and mechanical equipment in categories 1 and 2
- Unit verification according to Annex IX in categories 1, 2, and 3
- Review of technical documentation – we evaluate your technical file and provide actionable feedback before testing commences
- Testing in accordance with harmonised standards in our own testing laboratories
- Issuance of EU-Type Examination Certificates (Annex III / Module B), which require quality assurance notifications (Annex IV / Module D or Annex V / Module E)
- IECEx certificates for manufacturers also supplying markets outside the EU
- Continuous contact with the same specialist throughout the entire process – from initial dialogue to the final certificate

The ATEX directive and requirements for type examination
The ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU requires that equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres must satisfy the essential health and safety requirements before it can bear the CE mark and be placed on the EU market.
Certification comprises an assessment of the technical documentation as well as testing of a representative sample of the product in accordance with the relevant harmonised standards.
