What is biosolutions?
Biosolutions is an interdisciplinary business area that encompasses a wide range of innovative solutions within biotechnology. Biosolutions are used to address challenges in food production, agriculture, healthcare, environmental protection, and industry.
Biosolutions include enzymes, proteins, bacteria, dyes, biochemicals, biomaterials, biofuels, etc., which are produced on an industrial scale. Biosolutions solutions can encompass everything from plant-based foods, alternative food ingredients through precision fermentation, to biorefining of biomass for biobased materials and biofuels.
In Denmark, biosolutions are particularly prevalent in advanced foods, where we have strong positions in biobased ingredients and biofermentation technology. We see these technologies, for example, in the production of beer and cheese. However, we also have several strong companies in industrial enzymes, biobased chemicals, biobased feed, plant and seed breeding, bioenergy, and biobased environmental technology.
Biosolutions also focus on utilizing by-products and side streams from various industries with a focus on sustainability and circular economy.
