Targeted materials consultancy - Metallurgy, corrosion, and material selection

When something goes wrong with metal components, it is rarely coincidental, and the damage can have many causes – we can help you make the right material choices and reduce the risk.

Unexpected fractures, cracks, deformations, or corrosion damage can be caused by incorrect material selection, defects from production methods, inappropriate effects from post-treatment, or a combination of all of these.

At the same time, the requirements for documentation, safety, operating economy, and compliance are continuously tightening, and many companies must make complex decisions about materials and design – without necessarily having the required metallurgical expertise available in-house.

Targeted consultancy on metallic materials can make the difference. By combining metallurgical analyses, corrosion assessments, on-site inspections, and mechanical testing, we can identify the real causes of problems, document the properties of the materials, and translate the results into concrete recommendations.

This may include anything from choosing a more suitable alloy, adjusting process or heat-treatment parameters, and changes in design and dimensioning, to establishing better corrosion protection and systematic condition monitoring. The goal is the same: more robust structures, fewer failures, and well-documented solutions that last.

Metallurgy, corrosion, and material selection

At the Danish Technological Institute, we offer specialised metallurgical consultancy that helps you select and use the right metals and alloys for your specific application.

Based on, among other things, microstructure analysis, chemical composition, and SEM analyses, we assess the suitability of the materials and the causes of any failures. We work systematically with corrosion – from identification of corrosion mechanisms to recommending materials, coatings, and corrosion protection in demanding environments.
