Optimise metal products with material analysis

Do you and your company need to ensure and document the quality of your products, or do you need advice on material selection? At the Danish Technological Institute, we have a large metallurgical laboratory for testing and analysis, and some of the country’s leading specialists in metallic materials – and we are always ready to help.

In some products, strict requirements are placed on the chemical composition or microstructure of a metal alloy in use, for example to achieve satisfactory corrosion resistance. In other cases, it may be critical to know the hardness of a surface coating, so that the required wear resistance can be guaranteed.

Our specialists have many years of experience working with all types of steel, brass, and aluminium, and we can assist you with consultancy and analysis of these alloys.
Our services within metal analysis and testing

Equipment for various measurements and analyses

Specifically, we have advanced electron and light optical microscopes as well as machines that enable:

  • Chemical analysis of metals and alloys
  • Metallographic examinations, e.g. of microstructure
  • Hardness measurements
  • Coating thickness measurements of metallic coatings

In our product catalogue below, you can get a complete overview of accredited standard tests and tailor-made material tests available in our laboratory.

These are just selected material investigations that may be relevant to carry out in order to ensure the quality and thus the service life of your product.

Metallurgical laboratory and workshop

Often it is necessary to cut out, mount, and polish specimens for thorough characterisation of coating thickness – and for visualisation of microstructure, chemical etching may be essential. For hardness measurements, flat grinding is also often required.

For such tasks, we have the necessary expertise and the right equipment for preparing your specimens – even if they are manufactured in complex geometries and more or less common alloys. In this way, we minimise the preparatory work required from you.

All our investigations are concluded with a report that documents the results. The report can be used, for example, as quality documentation or as an internal decision-making basis.

Testing and consultancy are provided by a multidisciplinary team consisting of mechanical engineers and metallurgists, all of whom have a strong background in both material analysis and mechanical testing.
