- Mechanical properties - e.g., tensile strength (ISO 527), flexural strength (ISO 178), impact strength (ASTM D256), and hardness (ISO 868)
- Cosmetic and visual assessment - documentation of changes in surface appearance
- Aging and service life - accelerated tests simulating long-term environmental exposure (ISO 11346)
- Material control - verification of raw materials and semi-finished products against specifications
When standards fall short - customized tests
Not all products can be tested according to an existing standard. If your plastic product features unique geometry, application, or load profile, the specialists at Danish Technological Institute can design a customized functional test based on the product’s actual conditions of use.
We can also offer advanced mathematical extrapolation of measurement results - e.g., for estimating long-term properties where it is not practically feasible to await a full-scale service life test. An Arrhenius-like temperature dependence is often well-suited for chemical reactions (e.g., oxidative degradation). However, if the aging involves a physical change of a viscoelastic material, the Williams-Landel-Ferry (WLF) model is more appropriate.
