Materials and process qualification for CCUS - Utilization of CO2
Select Page
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a gas that has many possible applications in various industries and processes.
CO2 is also a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change when it is released into the atmosphere. Therefore, there is great interest in finding ways to capture, store, and utilize CO2 in a sustainable manner.
One of the possible ways to utilize CO2 is to convert it into chemicals or green fuels that can replace fossil fuels. This can be done using chemical processes that require energy and catalysts. Some of the products that can be made from CO2 include, for example, methanol, ethanol, formamide, and dimethyl carbonate.
CO2 also has many other applications in industry and society. For example, CO2 is used to create carbonation in beverages, to cool and freeze food products, to extinguish fires, to weld metals, to produce dry ice, and to grow plants in greenhouses.
Within the utilization of CO2, the Danish Technological Institute can assist with the following services:
- Determining gas composition and investigating impurities in the CO2 gas
- Conducting feasibility studies and thermodynamic calculations related to using CO2 for the production of chemicals and Power-to-X
- Testing and consulting within the electrification of high-temperature processes
- Chemical engineering calculations
- Conducting pilot trials within chemical and catalytic processes in which CO2 is included as a reactant
- Benchmarking of catalysts
- Conducting safety studies for chemical process equipment
- Participating in development projects within Carbon Capture
