Testing of taps, showers and shower systems
The primary purpose of the tests is to document that the taps and showers including their components (flexible hose and pullout spray) meet the requirements for dimensions, leak tightness, pressure resistance, hydraulic performance and acoustic characteristics.
As noise from for example taps can be detected in adjacent rooms, there are test requirements according to EN ISO 3822. For Germany the Ü mark applies and is issued by DIBt (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik).
A new standard - EN 18021 (Ecodesign) - was recently adopted for labelling of taps, showers, and shower systems for water and energy consumption. The purpose of the standard is to define the test procedures for calculating energy and measuring functional performance.
Testing of hose sets
The primary purpose of the tests is to document that the hose set meets the requirements for dimensions, flow rate and classification, corrosion, resistance to bending and tightening torque, tensile stress, leak tightness under internal hydraulic pressure, pressure cycling, pressure jump, temperature cycling, flexibility and UV resistance. For hose sets for household appliances a backflow prevention test is required.
